The women’s pickleball apparel category has exploded in 2025-2026. Old tennis brands (Nike, Adidas, Lululemon) finally take it seriously, and several pickleball-specific brands have launched lines genuinely tailored for the sport. Here’s what works.

What to look for in pickleball apparel
Pickleball-specific features that matter:
- Ball pockets. Skirts and shorts should have at least one pocket sized for a pickleball (not just a phone pocket). Lululemon and Athleta both got this right after years of complaints.
- Built-in shorts under skirts and dresses. Pickleball involves bending and lunging — built-in shorts are non-negotiable.
- Movement-friendly cut. Tops should accommodate full overhead swings without riding up. Test in the dressing room — raise both arms above your head.
- Sweat performance. Cotton is wrong for pickleball — it gets heavy when wet. Poly-spandex blends and Dri-FIT-style fabrics handle sweat better.
- UV protection on outdoor wear. UPF 30-50 fabric matters for outdoor play, especially summer.
#1 — Lululemon Court Rival Skirt ($78)
Lululemon’s pickleball-conversion skirt. Built-in shorts (4” inseam), two ball-sized side pockets, comfortable waistband, sweat-wicking Luxtreme fabric.
What’s good: Fit is exceptional across body types. Pockets hold balls without falling out. Fabric handles 2+ hour sessions without feeling soaked.
What’s not good: $78 is a lot. Color options rotate seasonally so a specific color may not be available.
#2 — Lobster Pickleball Dress ($95)
Pickleball-specific brand making pickleball-specific clothing. The dress has built-in shorts AND built-in bra in one piece — fewer layers, less sweat.
What’s good: Designed by people who actually play. Bra integration is a real innovation for the category. Multiple color options.
What’s not good: Only fits A-C bras well (D+ players need separate sports bra). $95 premium pricing.
#3 — Nike Court Dri-FIT Top ($45)
Solid budget top from the tennis Court line. Dri-FIT fabric handles sweat. Cut accommodates serving and overhead motion. UV protection rated.
What’s good: Reliable. Available everywhere. Multiple cuts (V-neck, crew, sleeveless).
What’s not good: Generic athletic look. Not pickleball-specific.
#4 — Athleta Match Point Skort ($79)
Best for varied body types. Athleta sizes through 1X-3X (most pickleball brands stop at XL). Wide waistband sits comfortably. Built-in shorts. Ball pocket on side.
What’s good: Inclusive sizing. Comfortable on the waist. Pocket actually fits a pickleball.
What’s not good: Slightly heavier than Lululemon. Fabric is fine but not as elite-sweat-handling as Luxtreme.
#5 — Pickleball Apparel Co. Pro Court Tank ($48)
Best pickleball-specific tank top. Brand designed for pickleball — the cut is shorter at the front, longer at the back, allowing for full overhead swings without riding up.
What’s good: Real pickleball-specific design. Comfortable. Lighter than most.
What’s not good: Smaller brand, less sizing depth. Some sizes sell out.
Things to avoid
- Cotton anything. Cotton soaks sweat and stays wet. Some pickleball gear marketers still sell cotton tees — skip them.
- Restrictive cuts. If you can’t raise both arms straight up comfortably, the shirt is wrong for pickleball.
- Skirts without built-in shorts. Just don’t.
- Tank tops with thin straps. Sports bras shouldn’t compete with straps for shoulder space.
Sports bras for pickleball
Most pickleball motion is moderate-impact. Standard medium-support sports bras work for most players. For larger busts or aggressive players, higher-support bras matter:
- Brooks Dare Crossback — high support, comfortable
- Lululemon Energy — medium support, popular
- Knix Catalyst — high support, no underwire
Layering for outdoor cool weather
For 50-65°F outdoor play:
- Long-sleeve sun shirt as base
- Skirt or shorts as usual
- Lightweight quarter-zip you can remove after warmup
For 35-50°F outdoor play:
- Add compression leggings under shorts/skirt
- Lightweight jacket (Patagonia Houdini-style works)
- Headband for ear coverage
Sun protection
For outdoor play, UV protection is part of the apparel decision. Look for:
- UPF 30+ rated fabrics
- Longer hem lengths
- Wide-brim hats (more brim = more shade)
- Polarized sunglasses (but see our eye protection guide for sport-specific eyewear)

Bottom line
Best skirt: Lululemon Court Rival Skirt ($78) Best dress: Lobster Pickleball Dress ($95) Best top: Nike Court Dri-FIT ($45) Best for inclusive sizing: Athleta Match Point Skort ($79)
Apparel matters less than paddle, shoes, and ball — but the right outfit makes 2-hour sessions noticeably more pleasant. Spend where it counts: skirt/shorts with real pockets and built-ins, sweat-wicking top, and a hat for outdoor play.
